Oğuz Anbarlı is an independent Turkish filmmaker dedicated to social realist cinema and character-driven, visual storytelling. Operating completely outside the traditional studio system, he champions a truly independent, self-funded approach that prioritizes raw emotion, authentic atmosphere, and uncompromised artistic vision over artificial production values. His narrative focus lies in exploring the deep-rooted generational and cultural conflicts within modern Turkey, often contrasting the kinetic energy of youth with the profound, heavy silence of rural Anatolia. The Name of the Song marks his directorial debut in feature filmmaking, standing as a testament to his belief in truly independent cinema where the camera speaks louder than dialogue.

His short films Pinhole (2015) and Mercan (2019) toured the festival circuit extensively before securing international distribution on VOD platforms.

Currently, Anbarlı is preparing for the premiere of his debut feature film, The Name of the Song. The project, which explores intimate, character-driven storytelling, was developed at the Meetings on the Bridge platform. In 2024, he founded Kalamar Film, a production company based between Eskişehir and Istanbul, focusing on developing new film and series projects.
